The Maidens: Another book review

Hi guys! Madame Meri is back with another book review and that too within a couple of days from my last one, because I was able to go through The Maidens like a snap of a finger. I don't usually write book reviews so I may be spoiling this murder mystery thriller for some who have not read this book yet. So in case you are indeed planning to read this book, please stop reading now.  The Maidens blew my mind. For someone who is not good with thrillers (movies or books), I was tempted to google the plot within 10 minutes of starting this book. I had read The Silent Patient from the same author last year so I was expecting some kind of a plot twist and hence viewed every character as a murder suspect.  Almost every man in this book gave me the creeps. Like a typical Alex Michaelids novel, this book is filled with mental health references, and anyone could have been sick enough to be a serial killer. From the beginning, the main character, Mariana, begins with a murder suspect: ...

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Book Review

I finally finished reading this book, and no, my life has not changed overnight. But, here are my thoughts on the book.  I went in, thinking that this will  be like many of the self-help books I love to read to motivate myself to become a better version  of myself. But this book is so much more. It forced me to reflect: what kind of a person do I want to be. What are the principles that I want to live by? How shall I live my life. In my funeral, how do I want to be remembered (from my family, friends, people from work, and society). We are so busy with our daily activities, that we often waste much of our time on things that are not necessarily important to us. Stephen R. Covey not only shows us how to organize our goals, based on the multiple roles we have as individuals, but also educates us in using a principle-centered approach to focus our time and energy on what is truly important to us, and what is in line with our end goal. This book is essentially about ho...

7 years of Zuleika

7 years ago from today, my first baby, Zuleika was born. And like most things, theres been a fair share of ups and downs in this journey. As I go down memory lane, I can't help but smile that the ups have outweighed the downs. A lot of time, hard work, dedication, passion, and nourishment has gone to grow it to where it is today. We have a long way to go, but I still wanted to sit down and reflect.  Every single morning, I am excited to come to work (okay, may be not every single day, but definitely most days). I love that I am surrounded by beauty. It gives me so much joy to look around my store and watch my creations on display. Love it even more when i see them getting sold. I love that I get to meet my clients. Some of them excite me, some of them make me laugh, and some of them challenge me, but all of them help me grow as a person. I love that I get to run it with family. I keep saying that Zuleika is my first baby but my brother has put in as much of his soul in growin...
