A conversation with self

I have been better. I have no-one but myself to blame for my lack of sleep. My phone needs to go and I must not break my habits. I know all of this. Atomic Habits and what not. One good step at a time. Productivity is how I perform. It depends on how much I value the task. How important is i for me to get shit done. Do I value by book/Instagram/Pinterest more than achieving my goal? Be id Dhobhighat or Zuleika. What do I want more?DG/Z re long term/farsighted wins/results which will make me significantly more happy than the short term thrill I get from my procrastinations. I know this. But it is so much easier to get that short term happiness. So quick and easy to get it. Yes, short-lived as well and not very fulfilling to be honest, but scratches the itch and it is so damn easy. Information or knowledge is only useful/good IF I use them to my benefit. I wonder how today is going to span. Short term vs. long term, Tomorrows entry will tell (provided I am able to stick to this rout...

The Legend: Anna Wintour

I finally finished reading Amy Odell's  biography on Anna Wintour and saying that I am impressed is an understatement. I am in complete and absolute awe of this woman.  Much of how Anna turned out is a result of her family and upbringing. As daughter of Charles Wintour, who was a legend in his field, Anna had the epitome of hard work and serious work ethics in her face at a very young age. Her father who was in office by 8 am every morning was responsible for putting out five different editions of the paper a day. "There wasn't any sense that he was an absent father, on the other side, he taught all of us what a work ethic is, and how important it is to love what you do in life." I think this set the tone for her life as she herself would also try to be in office by 8 am and often stay until 8 pm. Growing up, she was very much a part of her parents' lives. The glamorous parties and intellectual milieu was normalized growing up, and contributed to who she is toda...

Mother's Day special. 10 Things I learned from my mother

As far as I am concerned, everyday is mother's day. Mother's don't get a day off from being a mum, they are always on call: all day everyday. With the amount my mother influences my daily life, from what I wear to how I parent, I would be completely clueless without her.  Here are 10 things I have learned from my mother.  1. Read: Although not much of a reader herself,  she filled our rooms with books and bookshelves since I can remember. She continued to shove books in front of me until it became a habit. And now, I can keep myself entertained for days because of her persistence.  2. Keep your room, your house and your workspace clean. The obsession of having a clean room has not only helped me to use cleaning to destress but to also keep myself organized. 3. Wear clothes that look good on you, not what is trendy. Always be presentable. A well groomed person is easy on the eyes for everyone and gives off a positive vibe.  4. Be nice to everyone: don't tre...

The Cartiers: The untold story of the family behind the jewelry empire

Inspirational and aspirational, this is probably one of my favorite books of all time. As someone in the jewelry business, I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. The story of the Cartiers is one that deserves much praise. They have reached heights that can only be dreamt of, and this book shows us why they are where they are today. The founder The Next Gen: Alfred and his three sons      During the french revolution, the founder, Louis Francois Cartier, took a huge risk and bought his master's workshop, marking the beginning of the jewelry empire. With hard work, dedication, and vision, the Cartiers were able to take that small workshop, and place themselves in the heart of the luxury market. Joined by one of his children, Alfred who introduced revolutionary ideas such as the introduction of platinum jewelry,  took the business to greater heights and gained a reputation among the "who's who" of that time. As he grew older, Alfred brought...

Indra Nooyi: My Life in Full - A book Review

I have been an Indra Nooyi Fan for a while now. I have probably listened to every podcast/talks she's been on to the point where I got sick of listening to answers to similar questions over and over again. Indra Nooyi, is my hero. My inspiration. Ever since she came up with her own book, I was excited to read it, hoping for more stories than the ones already covered in most of her interviews.  I found this book to be very relatable.  The fact that I read this book in march (around women's day), made it even more meaningful to me.  I was hoping that this book would read like a manual on how to do it all. Unfortunately, it is not. She basically just writes about all the incidents in her life until now and we the readers are forced to think for ourselves and learn what we can from her story. Her story is one of hard work, strength, smarts, and a can do attitude. I wish she had written in more detail. I would have loved to read about her happiness when she was able to break g...
